OUSD Middle School STEM Lab
Recognized as Top 10 Program

ORANGE, CA — December 9, 2015 —  Orange Unified School District is proud to announce that Cerro Villa Middle School’s has been selected by Paxton Patterson as a top school in the country for its effective implementation of the ActionLABS STEM program curriculum.  Paxton Patterson will be visiting the school and classroom to discuss the program’s implementation in order to share its success with other schools around the globe. A byproduct of this visit will be the creation of a video to promote STEM and CTE (Career Technical Education) learning with future students, parents and the community.

Cerro Villa Middle School’s STEM lab was opened in April 2015. The STEM lab utilizes the Paxton Patterson ActionLABS program, which offers ten days of instruction 18 of the 22 Integrated Instructional Units. The program delivers a contemporary curriculum of technological content and scientific inquiry through the balanced use of multimedia, video and hands-on activities. The middle school labs offer students the following instructional stations: Alternative Energy; Computer Aided Drafting (CAD); Computer Graphics and Animation; Digital Manufacturing; Digital Music; Electricity; Energy & Power; Flight Technology; Forensic Science; Laser Technology; Materials Processing; Mechanisms; Pneumatics; Research & Development; Robotics; and Structural Engineering.  For more information the importance of introducing students to STEM and career pathways early click on the following link to a video called "Julie's Career Pathways".
