Orange High School History

In September 1903, the neighboring towns of Orange, Olive, El Modena & Villa Park voted to establish the Orange Union High School District.

On August 1, 2003 Senator Barbara Boxer sends a letter congratulating OHS on its 100th Anniversary

Timeline of Events for Orange High School

1903 - OUHS begins classes in the Dobner Building
1905 - 1st school building located at the corner of Palm & Glassell
1906 - Aid sent to earthquake victims in San Francisco
1911 - Fred Kelly graduates
1912 - Fred Kelly wins a gold medal at the Olympics
1914 - W.O. Hart is the boys basketball coach
1916 - School newspaper "The Reflector" is first printed
1917 - OUHS leads the state in WW I aid
1922 - Auditorium is built
1923 - Girls basketball team wins county championship
1928 - Hod Chambers starts Dutch/Irish days. James Workman wins Olympic gold.
1929 - Football team wins Southern California Championship (CIF)
1935 - Track team wins league
1940's - OUHS raises $15,000 yearly for WW II aid
1941 - Alma Mater is first sung
1950 - First female ASB President - Mary Jane Glasbrenner
1953 - New campus opens at Walnut & Shaffer
1955 - 400 wing & Hod Chambers Gym added
1960's - School grows to over 3000 students until Villa Park HS opens
1965 - Dutch/Irish days end
1970 - Fred Kelly stadium opens
1978 - 75th anniversary - museum opens in the Townsend Room
1980's - Aid is sent to earthquake victims in San Francisco
1986 - OHS Choir tours to Europe begin
1990's - OHS adds new computer labs
1994 - OHS choir in the movie "Sister Act 2"
1999 - 2003 - 1st in nation in Leukemia Penny Drive (raised over $100,000)
2000 - Danny Califf on Olympic Soccer Team
2004 - OHS becomes AVID National Demonstration School
2005 -- University parnerships with Chapman University, UCI & CSUF
